Jet blasting blocked drains is the standard way we clear a sewer or stormwater line in South West Sydney. A high-pressure water jetter on the truck sends a hose up the pipe with a nozzle that cuts roots, strips grease off the walls and flushes the lot to the main, so the drain is clean rather than just open. Then the camera goes down to show why it blocked, and you get the footage.

No call-out fee, the price confirmed before the jetter starts, and the same rate day or night. Paul answers the phone himself.

Short answer

Monarch Civil & Plumbing jet blasts blocked drains across Liverpool, Fairfield, Camden, Campbelltown and everything within about 20 km of Austral: blocked sewers, stormwater lines, kitchen lines full of grease and root-bound clay pipes. Sydney 2026 price guides put a standard blocked drain clear at $180 to $450 and a clear with camera and jetting at $400 to $1,025; we quote on inspection and there is no call-out fee.

What jet blasting does that an eel cannot

An electric eel bores a hole through a blockage. Jet blasting takes the blockage off the pipe wall and washes it away. On tree roots that means cutting them back to the joint they came through instead of leaving a stump for them to regrow from; on grease it means a clean pipe instead of a tunnel through fat that closes over in a month; on silt and sand in a stormwater line it is the only tool that works at all, because a cable just slides through it. The jetter is also kinder to old earthenware than a rotating steel cable, which can tear a cracked joint open.

The eel still has its place. A blocked basin or shower branch, or a toy wedged near the gully, is a hand tool job and we do not bring the jetter in for it. Our guide to jet blasting goes into the machine itself; this page is about getting yours done.

How a jet blasting job runs

We open the overflow relief gully or the nearest inspection opening and run the nozzle up the line to the blockage. Most of the jets point backwards, so the hose pulls itself up the pipe and scours the wall as it goes; the forward jet does the cutting. Once water is moving, a second pass with a cleaning nozzle strips the walls and a full flush pushes the debris to the sewer main.

Then the CCTV drain camera goes down the clean line. It shows what caused the block, where the pipe is damaged if it is, and with the locator we mark the spot on the ground with the depth. You get the footage on your phone the same day, with a written price for any repair, and no pressure to take it. On older lines we camera first, because high-pressure water into a displaced joint can make it worse; Paul decides that at the gully, not from the office.

Sewer lines, kitchen lines and stormwater

Blocked sewer: every fixture in the house slow, gurgling, a smell, water at the gully. Jetting clears it, the camera finds the roots or the broken joint, and our blocked sewer drain page covers what to do while we are on the way. Kitchen line: grease and fat from years of washing up, which an eel pushes through and a jetter removes. Stormwater: silt, leaves and roots at the downpipe connections, usually noticed when the yard or garage floods in a storm; see sewer and stormwater drainage for the drainage side.

Jet blasting cost

Jet blasting is quoted on inspection, because what moves the price is access (a gully or inspection opening, or a toilet that has to be lifted), the length and condition of the line, and whether the camera finds damage that needs a separate quote. For reference, Sydney 2026 price guides put a standard blocked drain clear at $180 to $450 and a clear with camera and jetting at $400 to $1,025. There is no call-out fee with us, the price is confirmed before we start, and the rate is the same day or night. Seniors and pensioners get 10% off labour.

Jetting does not fix a broken pipe. If the camera shows a collapsed or root-bound section, clearing it is a temporary measure and Paul will say so on the day. The permanent fix is to dig and replace the section with our own excavator, or a specialist reline under a driveway or slab where digging is the dearer option; we tell you which and why. Tree roots in sewer pipes explains the options.

Jet Blasting Blocked Drains: questions we get asked

Is jet blasting safe for old clay pipes?

Yes when it is done by someone who cameras first. Sound earthenware takes the pressure without a problem. A cracked or displaced joint can be made worse, which is why Paul checks older lines with the camera before jetting at full pressure and uses a lower setting where the pipe is fragile.

How long does jet blasting a blocked drain take?

A straightforward sewer clear is usually under an hour including the camera inspection afterwards. Long runs under concrete, heavy roots or a line that has not been cleaned in years take longer, and Paul tells you on the phone what to expect.

Do you charge a call-out fee for jet blasting?

No. There is no call-out fee anywhere in our area, the price is confirmed before the jetter starts, and the rate is the same after hours and on weekends. You only pay if you go ahead.

Will the drain block again after jet blasting?

Not for a long time if the cause was grease, wipes or silt. If the cause is tree roots in an old pipe they will grow back through the same joint eventually; the camera shows where, and a sectional repair stops it for good. Jetting is the clean, jetting plus repair is the fix.

Can you jet blast a stormwater drain?

Yes, and it is the best tool for it. Silt, leaves and roots at the downpipe connections flush out with the jetter where an eel does nothing, and the camera then shows whether the line has the fall it needs or has sagged.

Who pays if the blockage is in the Sydney Water main?

Sydney Water, at no cost to you, if the block is in their main or at the connection point. The camera shows which side of the boundary the problem is on, and if it is theirs we tell you and you ring 13 20 90.
