Drainage is where we're strongest. Thirteen-plus years on sewers and stormwater, civil drainage credentials, and our own Komatsu mini excavator on the trailer, so when a sewer needs digging up, it gets dug up by the person who quoted it.

From a cracked earthenware line under a Fairfield backyard to a new connection for a granny flat in Leppington, this is the work we do every week.

Short answer

Monarch Civil & Plumbing repairs, replaces and installs sewer and stormwater drainage across South West Sydney and the Macarthur region: CCTV inspections, root cutting, sewer excavation and replacement, new sewer connections for granny flats and new builds, stormwater pits, absorption trenches and yard drainage. Excavation is done in-house with our own mini excavator, which keeps quotes tighter than subcontracting the dig.

Sewer repairs and replacement

The older streets around Liverpool, Fairfield, Cabramatta and Camden still run 1960s-70s earthenware sewer lines with mortar joints, a magnet for tree roots. When jetting stops being a fix, what we do today is CCTV, jet blasting and root cutting, then digging out and replacing the failed section with our own excavator, which is usually the cheaper and more permanent fix when the pipe is shallow and accessible. Sectional pipe patching is next in the van and full-length relining will follow; until each is live, no page here will claim it, and if a specialist reline is the smarter spend under a driveway or slab we will tell you so. We'll show you the camera footage and price each option. Our tree roots guide explains the trade-offs.

Blocked sewer drain? Overflow gully spilling, toilets gurgling

Water at the overflow relief gully, toilets that gurgle when the shower runs and every drain slow at once mean the main sewer line is blocked, not a fixture. We clear it with the jetter and camera it in the same visit: see blocked sewer drain for what happens when you ring, jet blasting blocked drains for how the jetter works, and tree roots in sewer pipes for why the older suburbs block again and again.

New sewer and water connections

Granny flats, duplexes, knockdown-rebuilds and new lots across Austral, Leppington, Oran Park and Edmondson Park all need connections to Sydney Water's sewer and water mains. We obtain the sewer service diagram, lodge the Notice of Work, trench and connect, arrange inspections and issue the Certificate of Compliance: one contractor from drawings to sign-off.

Where a development needs Sydney Water approval (a Section 73 compliance certificate), we work alongside your water servicing coordinator.

Stormwater drainage that actually drains

Yard flooding after every storm, water pooling against the house, a downpipe discharging onto the neighbour's side: these are design problems, not blockages. We install stormwater pits and pipes, absorption trenches and soakwells, subsoil (ag) drains, charged lines to street kerbs, sized for the heavy summer downpours the Macarthur region gets.

The job pictured above is typical: the old stormwater line had failed and water was pooling on the front lawn every time it rained. We dug it out, upgraded the run to galvanised steel pipe to the kerb, cast a new kerb outlet and topsoiled the lawn. One day, one crew, our own excavator.

Blocked stormwater drains and pits

Stormwater blocks with leaves, silt and roots at the downpipe connections and in the pits, and the first sign is a yard or garage that floods in every storm. We clear the pits and grates, jet the underground line and, where the pit itself has failed, replace it. What you can clear yourself and when it needs the jetter: blocked stormwater drains.

Trenchless boring: no long trenches

Where a new line has to cross a driveway, a path, established garden or a lawn you'd rather keep, we bore under it with a Grundomat pneumatic boring tool from a small launch pit instead of trenching the whole way. Water services, stormwater, sewer laterals and conduits can all go in this way. Less digging, less reinstatement, and the concrete stays where it is.

Our plant

A Komatsu PC18 mini excavator with trenching buckets, plus the compaction gear to reinstate properly. It fits through a standard side gate, which matters on suburban blocks. A Grundomat boring tool for going under driveways and paths without cutting them. Owning the gear means we dig (or bore) when the job needs it, not when a hire yard has something free, and the quote reflects that.

What it costs

Drainage work is quoted after a CCTV inspection because the camera decides the job. For reference, Sydney 2026 price guides put camera plus jetting at $400 to $1,025. Excavation is priced by depth, length and surface (grass, concrete, driveway). You'll get options with prices, not a single number. If the line is blocked rather than broken, start with blocked sewer drains.

Sewer & stormwater: questions we get asked

Pipe relining or dig and replace: which is better?

Relining wins under driveways, slabs and long runs where digging is expensive; it can't fix a collapsed or badly sagging pipe. Excavation wins when the pipe is shallow, accessible and short, or structurally gone. We dig and replace with our own excavator today, and we will tell you straight when a reline from a specialist is the better spend.

Who is responsible for the sewer, me or Sydney Water?

Sydney Water maintains the sewer main and the connection point; every pipe on your property is the owner's responsibility. Sydney Water can supply a sewer service diagram showing where the private line runs, and we use it to plan any dig.

Can you connect a granny flat to the sewer?

Yes. We handle the sewer service diagram, Notice of Work, trenching, connection, inspections and the Certificate of Compliance for sewer, water and stormwater to the new dwelling.

Why does my backyard flood every time it rains?

Usually undersized or blocked stormwater, a downpipe that isn't connected to anything, or a low point with nowhere to drain. We survey the falls and install pits, pipes or an absorption trench so water has somewhere to go.

Do you do excavation for other trades or homeowners?

Yes, trenching and small excavation with our Komatsu PC18 for drainage, water services, conduits and footings, with an operator. Ask when you enquire.
