Gas Fitting: Natural Gas & LPG
Licensed gasfitter for Liverpool, Austral and the Macarthur region. Gas lines, appliance connections, leak repairs, LPG bottles and conversions, with a compliance certificate on every job.
- Licensed NSW gasfitter
- Certificate on every job
- No call-out fee

Gas is the part of plumbing nobody thinks about until they smell it. It sits under the same NSW licence as our water and drainage work (488158C), so the person who plumbs your kitchen or your hot water can also run the gas to it, test it and sign it off, in one visit.
Two kinds of gas around here. Older homes across Liverpool, Moorebank, Casula, Campbelltown and Camden are mostly on mains natural gas. The acreage side of our area, Rossmore, Bringelly, Cobbitty, Grasmere and parts of Austral and Leppington, runs on LPG bottles. We do both, and the conversions between them.
Monarch Civil & Plumbing is a licensed gasfitter for natural gas and LPG across Liverpool, Austral and the Macarthur region. For natural gas we do everything on your side of the meter: new gas lines, extensions and relocations, appliance connections, leak detection and repair, and disconnections. For LPG we do most things: bottle installations, regulators and pigtails, gas lines, appliance connections and conversions. Every job is pressure tested and comes with a Certificate of Compliance. No call-out fee, quoted on inspection.
Natural gas: from the meter in
The street main, the service pipe and the meter belong to the gas network, which is Jemena across most of Sydney. Everything on your side of the meter is consumer piping, and that is our side of the line. What we do on it:
- New gas lines from the meter to a cooktop, oven, hot water system, heater bayonet, outdoor kitchen or barbecue point, in copper or yellow-jacketed gas pipe like the one in the photo.
- Extending or moving a gas line for a renovation, a new kitchen or an outdoor area.
- Connecting and commissioning appliances, including gas hot water systems, cooktops and ovens.
- Leak detection and repair: pressure test on the installation, soapy water on the joints, repair, retest.
- Capping and disconnecting gas when you go electric.
What we don't do: anything on the street side of the meter. If the meter is leaking, or you need a new connection from the street to a house that has never had gas, the network has to attend. Ring us anyway if you're not sure which side the problem is on; we'll tell you straight and point you to the right number.
LPG: bottles, lines and appliances
No mains gas doesn't mean no gas. On acreage and in older homes off the network we do most LPG work:
- Twin 45 kg exchange bottle installations with a changeover regulator, pigtails and the line to the house.
- Regulators and pigtails replaced when they perish or the pressure drops.
- LPG hot water systems, cooktops, ovens, heaters, barbecues and outdoor kitchens connected and tested.
- Converting an appliance between LPG and natural gas with the manufacturer's kit, adjusted, tested and certified. Common when someone brings a barbecue or cooktop from a house on mains gas to one on bottles, or the other way.
Your LPG supplier delivers the bottles or fills a bulk tank; we do everything from the bottles to the burner.
Smell gas? Do this first
Turn it off at the meter (the lever or tap on the pipe next to it) or at the bottle. Open the windows and doors. Don't flick switches, light anything or start a car in the garage. Get everyone outside and ring 0455 222 292, any hour. If the smell is strong or you can hear it escaping, ring 000 first. We pressure test the whole installation, find the leak, repair it, retest, relight the pilots and hand you the certificate. Our gas leak guide covers what happens in more detail.
What it costs
No call-out fee. Paul looks at the job, quotes it, and you only pay if you go ahead. What moves the price on gas work is how far the new line runs, whether it's copper or jacketed pipe, access under the floor or through walls, and whether an appliance needs a conversion kit. You get the number before anything is cut, and the rate is the same after hours.
The certificate
NSW requires a licensed gasfitter to issue a Certificate of Compliance for gasfitting work. You get a copy for every job, and it's worth keeping: insurers ask for it after a claim, buyers' inspectors ask for it at sale, and property managers keep it on file for the landlord.
From recent jobs

Gas fitter Austral and Leppington
Most of our gas work is close to home. As the gas fitter in Austral we connect cooktops, ovens and bayonets in the new builds, run BBQ points to the outdoor kitchens on the bigger blocks and find leaks the same day. As the gas fitter in Leppington it is the same work in the estates plus LPG bottles and conversions on the acreage side. For LPG hot water and conversions further out, see Plumber Bringelly. No call-out fee, and the rate is the same after hours.
Gas fitting: questions we get asked
Are you licensed for gas work?
Yes. NSW licence 488158C covers plumbing, drainage and gasfitting, and Paul does the gas work himself. Every gas job is pressure tested and you get a Certificate of Compliance, which is required in NSW for gasfitting work.
Do you work on the gas meter or the pipe from the street?
No. The street main, the service pipe and the meter belong to the gas network. Our natural gas work starts on your side of the meter and runs to the appliances. If the meter itself is leaking or you need a brand-new connection from the street, the network has to attend, and we'll tell you who to ring.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Turn the gas off at the meter or the bottle, open windows and doors, don't flick any switches or light anything, get everyone outside, then ring us on 0455 222 292. If the smell is strong or you can hear gas escaping, ring 000 first. We pressure test the installation, find the leak, repair it and retest before anything is turned back on.
Can you install LPG bottles at my place?
Yes. Twin 45 kg exchange bottles with a changeover regulator, the pigtails, and the line from the bottles to the house are regular work for us on the acreage side of our area, where there is no mains gas. Your LPG supplier delivers the bottles; we do the installation, testing and certificate.
Can you convert an appliance from LPG to natural gas, or the other way?
Usually, yes. Cooktops, ovens, barbecues and many heaters have a manufacturer's conversion kit. We fit the kit, adjust and test the appliance, and certify it. Some appliances can't be converted, and we'll tell you before you buy one.
Do you charge more for gas work after hours?
No. Gas leaks don't keep business hours. Paul answers the phone 24/7 and the rate is the same at night and on weekends. There's no call-out fee either: the job is quoted on inspection and you only pay if you go ahead.
I'm going all-electric. Can you disconnect the gas?
Yes. We cap and disconnect the consumer piping safely and certify it, and can do the plumbing side of the hot water or cooktop swap in the same visit. Closing the account and removing the meter is arranged with your gas retailer and the network.
