Claymore was built from 1978 as a large Housing Commission estate, with streets named after Australian artists, and half its homes are townhouses or semis joined to the neighbour. It is being rebuilt as Hillcroft by Landcom and Homes NSW across 125 hectares, with about 1,490 homes planned and stages still under construction through 2027. So Claymore today is two suburbs: the remaining 1970s estate, where seven in ten homes are rented and most repairs go through Homes NSW, and the new private homes along Dobell Road and Badgally Road.
